The River of Hopes

  • Created Year: 2020
  • Materials: cotton thread and metal
  • Creator: HAI-QIAN, YANG

This piece of work is set on the safety net amid the open well between flights of stairs. It is designed with both considerations of safety and aesthetics. The piece is titled "The River of Hopes&" because "hope" in Mandarin Chinese sounds similar to "fishing net" in Taiwanese Hokkien. The river was created by weaving and crocheting together various colors and patterns.

Also, the safety net flows down like a river, creating a sense of smoothness. Visitors may admire it from both sides while ascending and descending stairs, experiencing lively, multicolored flowers blossoming over the entire area where The River of Hopes winds its way.

Alishan Prelude

  • Created Year: 2020
  •  Materials: Koji pottery and mosaic
  • Creator: TUNG-CHEH, HSIEH

The central pillar of the hall is designed as an image of a cherry blossom tree, incorporating elements of Chiayi's unique imagery and local specialties such as Koji pottery, cut and paste craft, and mosaic collage to fully demonstrate local characteristics. The circular background with semi-figurative cherry tree trunks and Jade mountain sets off the Alishan train and endemic species of birds such as Swinhoe's pheasant and Mikado pheasant in the middle scene, and endemic species of conservation animals such as the Formosan black bears, leopard cats, and Formosan serows in the foreground.

Taiwanese mountain cherries blossom on the three-dimensional branches. A formosan macaque is climbing up to the tree where owls and some Alishan endemic birds inhabit. The original ceiling is designed as clouds in Alishan with mosaic collage, and on the ground, the mosaic collage of Tsou people’s totems encircles the pillar.
